Tracy Garrigan Bon Health

I was diagnosed with a Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of two. Doctors told my parents there was “no known cause or cure” for my disease.

I grew up taking multiple medications to suppress the pain, inflammation and my immune system. Over the years, costly and time-consuming treatments, X-rays and liver function tests became a way of life. I lost full use and mobility of my wrists, hands and toes and endured multiple surgeries.

In my late 20’s a new class of drugs, Biologic Response Modifiers, emerged. They were considered most effective when coupled with chemotherapy drugs like Methotrexate. Soon came the need for more medications; sleeping aids, anti-depressants, steroids, and pain meds like Vicodin. I was up to 8 prescription medications and feeling worse than ever. My body buckled under the toxic load and a neurological meltdown ensued. Unable to sleep and in total body pain, I became bedridden, out of work, hopeless and suicidal. I was afraid to lose my job and insurance. I was afraid I’d never have a normal life. I was afraid to be a burden to my loved ones. But mostly I was afraid that my severe total body pain would never end. I wanted to unzip my body and step out.

Doctors were out of answers and I became the hot-potato patient no one wanted to be responsible for. Night after painful, sleepless night the truth began to set in- I was the only one responsible for my health or able to heal my body. Why did I ever believe such a thing could be outsourced?

It was time to learn how my body worked as a whole interconnected system. It was time to become smarter than the specialists. My life literally depended on it.

With relentless research I discovered changes I could make to my diet and lifestyle. It began with right thinking and the awareness of energy. I then learned the limitations of our current food and healthcare systems. I fired all my doctors and sought help beyond my insurance plan. I solicited the brightest minds I could find to teach me how harness the natural healing power of my body. I discovered Naturopathic Medicine thanks to Dr. Joshua Levitt and the science of Functional Medicine thanks to Metagenics.

Most doctors don’t know or believe in the connection between auto-immune diseases and gut health. They couldn’t be more wrong. My biggest improvements came from changing my food and addressing my stress levels.

I quickly learned that true self-care came down to asking myself one simple question: “Is this (fill in the blank) healthy for me?”

Much needed to be changed and it wouldn’t happen overnight. Immersed in my own process of creating health I became the go-to expert for friends, family and co-workers. If I didn’t have the answer, I knew where to get it.

I then made the decision to go to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There I was, in my late 30’s, leaving a 15 year career as a successful fashion designer in the worst economic climate of our time to pursue a path no one’s heard of; Health Coaching.

It was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Everyone is looking to be healed in some way, they just don’t know that healer is in them. I help reconnect people back to their own source of healing powers. Helping others create happy, healthy and empowered lives is more than my job. It’s living in alignment with my purpose.

I remain prescription free, pain free, stronger more joyful than ever. I look forward to helping you or someone you love do the same!

With love,
